Container News reported on 22 September 2026 that the gap between major East–West container trades widened again in the latest weekly index prints. China’s SCFI rose 0.7% week on week to 3,687.83 points (from 3,662.18) and the broader CCFI climbed 1.9% to 1,897.15 (from 1,862.18). Ningbo’s NCFI moved the other way, down 1.8% to 2,535.27, while the Freightos Baltic Index (FBX) Global Container Freight Index fell 3% to USD 3,407 after a prior 1% decline.
Drewry’s World Container Index increased 1% to USD 4,500 per 40-foot container, supported by Transpacific strength: Shanghai–Los Angeles rose 5% to USD 7,712 and Shanghai–New York rose 7% to USD 10,394. Parallel NYFI readings cited in the same roundup showed Asia–US West Coast up 7.45% to 7,076.39 and Asia–US East Coast up 4.71% to 9,165.69. Drewry attributed Transpacific support to pre–Golden Week demand and carrier capacity management.
Asia–Europe remained soft. Drewry put Shanghai–Rotterdam down 9% to USD 3,626 and Shanghai–Genoa down 5% to USD 4,016; NYFI Asia–North Europe fell 3.93% to 3,752.11. Container News notes Drewry called this the seventh consecutive week of divergent Transpacific versus Asia–Europe trends, with weaker European demand and a gradual return of Suez sailings weighing on Europe while US lanes stay firm into the Mid-Autumn / Golden Week booking window.
