CMA CGM: China–East Africa PSS from 15 Oct; Dar $550–600, Mombasa $800/TEU

Container News (24 Sep 2026) reports CMA CGM will apply a Peak Season Surcharge on China-origin shipments to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya) from 15 October 2026 until further notice. North/Central China to Dar is USD 600/TEU and to Mombasa USD 800/TEU; South China to Dar is USD 550/TEU and to Mombasa USD 800/TEU. For China origins, the surcharge is subject to Shanghai Shipping Exchange filing and may be incorporated into the ocean freight rate.

On 24 September 2026, Container News reported that CMA CGM will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge for shipments from China to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Mombasa in Kenya. The surcharge takes effect on 15 October 2026 and remains applicable until further notice.

Published amounts are: North and Central China to Dar es Salaam USD 600 per TEU; North and Central China to Mombasa USD 800 per TEU; South China to Dar es Salaam USD 550 per TEU; and South China to Mombasa USD 800 per TEU.

Container News notes that for shipments originating in China, the surcharge will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and may be incorporated into the ocean freight rate. Buyers should verify how the filed amount appears on the bill of lading and all-in quotations.

The East Africa PSS follows earlier CMA CGM Africa surcharge updates on West Africa, Mauritius and Durban earlier in September. Treat each corridor as a separate cost line when modelling China-origin programmes into Q4.

GACC via SCIO: China goods trade +18.8% in first three quarters to 39.94 trillion yuan

At a State Council Information Office briefing on 14 October 2026, GACC spokesperson and Vice Minister Wang Jun said China's goods trade reached 39.94 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, up 18.8% year on year.
