CMA CGM: Asia–Latin America freight +$1,000/box from 15 Oct (all Asia origins)

Container News (27 Sep 2026) reports CMA CGM will raise freight rates from Asia to Latin America by USD 1,000 per container from 15 October 2026 (cargo loading date). Origins cover all Asian ports including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh. Destinations include West/East Coast South America, West/East Coast Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico. The increase applies to dry, reefer, out-of-gauge and paying empty containers.

On 27 September 2026, Container News reported that CMA CGM will increase freight rates from Asia to Latin America by US$1,000 per container.

The increase takes effect from 15 October 2026 based on the cargo’s loading date—just after China’s National Day Golden Week (1–7 October) when export handovers resume.

Origin scope covers all Asian ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh. Destination scope includes West Coast South America, East Coast South America, West Coast Central America, East Coast Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Container News states the increase applies to dry, reefer and out-of-gauge cargo, as well as paying empty containers—so equipment type alone does not avoid the hike.

For China-origin shippers selling into LatAm retail or industrial channels, treat 15 October as a hard cost cliff on CMA CGM Asia–LatAm space and reconfirm competing carrier filings before committing October–November purchase orders.
