On 1 October 2026, Container News reported that Hapag-Lloyd will implement a General Rate Increase (GRI) on container shipments from the Far East to Latin America. The revised rates apply from 15 October 2026 until further notice and cover 20-foot dry, 40-foot dry and 40-foot non-operating reefer (NOR) containers. All published figures are in US dollars per container.

Most equipment types increase by US$1,000 per container. The exception is the 40-foot NOR rate from the Far East to the Caribbean, including Panama, which remains unchanged at US$8,600.

Published new levels (selected): South America West Coast US$6,000/20ft dry, US$6,200/40ft dry, US$4,700/40ft NOR; Mexico West Coast US$5,900 / US$6,100 / US$4,800; South America East Coast US$6,500 / US$6,700 / US$5,400; Central America West Coast (including GTPRQ) US$6,900 / US$7,200 / US$6,900; Caribbean including Panama US$9,700 / US$9,700 / US$8,600 (NOR unchanged).

For China-origin programs into Latin America after Golden Week, reprice mid-to-late October Hapag-Lloyd dry/NOR bookings with the GRI explicit in the all-in, compare competing Far East–LatAm strings, and note that COSCO’s planned ESA3 third weekly Far East–East Coast South America service from Ningbo around 17 December adds later-Q4 capacity options for Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
