On 9 October 2026, QiLu Flash News reported that Weifang Port has opened its first Africa breakbulk liner service. The vessel Jinhaixin (金海鑫) sailed from Weifang loaded with coil steel, fertilizer, engineering vehicles and equipment and more than 20 other cargo types, totaling over 50,000 tonnes, bound for African ports. The launch fills the port’s previous blank in direct Africa breakbulk liner sailings and gives local industrial exporters a new sea logistics channel.
Shandong Maritime Safety Administration (Weifang MSA), in an 8 October notice, said the first sailing departed on 6 October and that the maiden destinations are Tanzania and South Africa. Cargo is described as tonne-bag goods, engineering vehicles and equipment and other breakbulk used for local industrial projects. The MSA said it supported the maiden voyage with priority berthing, pilotage and inspection, one-stop clearance and on-site cargo securing checks.
According to the QiLu report, the Africa breakbulk service will operate as a monthly liner (one sailing per month), using Weifang Port as the hub to link the port’s hinterland with overseas markets. The report notes strong demand for building materials and construction machinery in South Africa and North Africa, and says the port has upgraded loading processes and yard capacity for mixed breakbulk so that multi-spec cargo can be loaded efficiently.
For sourcing and logistics managers moving project cargo or industrial goods from Shandong to Africa, the new monthly schedule is worth checking against existing Shanghai, Qingdao and Ningbo options—especially when cargo does not fit standard containers and needs direct breakbulk handling.
