Yantian Port sets China single-ship record: 28,684 TEU handled on HAMBURG EXPRESS during Golden Week

Shenshi News (via ifeng, 4 Oct 2026) reports that on 2 October Shenzhen's Yantian Port completed 28,684 TEU of loading and discharge on HAMBURG EXPRESS, a 24,000 TEU class ship of nearly 400 m on the Gemini Cooperation AE1 Europe service. It is a new single-ship record for Yantian and for any port in China, beating the 25,872 TEU Yantian record set by ELEONORA MAERSK on 20 July. Up to 9 quay cranes worked the ship at once, and customs, maritime and border teams stayed on duty through the holiday

On 4 October 2026, Shenshi News reported that Shenzhen's Yantian Port kept operations running through the National Day holiday and set a new record on 2 October. The Gemini Cooperation AE1 Europe service vessel HAMBURG EXPRESS completed 28,684 TEU of loading and discharge, a new single-ship record for Yantian and for Chinese ports overall.

HAMBURG EXPRESS is nearly 400 m long and belongs to the 24,000 TEU class, the largest container ships in service. It berthed at Yantian at 08:20 on 29 September, during one of the busiest windows of the year between late September and the holiday. The port coordinated quay cranes, yard and horizontal transport, using up to 9 quay cranes at the same time.

This is Yantian's second single-ship record this year. On 20 July, ELEONORA MAERSK on the Gemini AE11 service handled 25,872 TEU. The new figure is more than 2,800 TEU higher, only a little over two months later.

The report links the growth to Yantian's expanding network: about 100 global routes each week, 53 of them connecting APEC member economies, with 14 new APEC-linked routes added this year. Customs, maritime and border inspection teams stayed on duty through the holiday to support vessel calls and cargo clearance.
