Drewry's 8 October 2026 World Container Index assessment set the composite at US$4,351 per 40ft container, down 2% week on week. Drewry attributed the soft print to weaker demand during China's Golden Week on both Transpacific and Asia-Europe trades.
Lane detail: Shanghai to Los Angeles US$7,624 (-3%); Shanghai to New York US$10,220 (-2%); Shanghai to Rotterdam US$3,337 (-2%); Shanghai to Genoa US$3,696 (unchanged). Drewry's Container Capacity Insight showed four blank sailings announced for the next Transpacific week (versus eleven this week) and six for Asia-Europe (versus five).
Drewry said carriers are trying higher FAK rates in the second half of October on Asia-Europe, with uptake uncertain as Suez capacity returns, and that Asia-Europe rates have now fallen for 13 straight weeks. Near-term expectation in the note: rates remain broadly stable next week, with volatility still tied to demand, capacity and routing shifts.
