China News reported on 22 October 2026 that, on the eve of the second phase of the 140th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), a batch of imported exhibits from Turkey completed customs inspection in Hall A of the fair venue. It was the first time Canton Fair imported exhibits were inspected at the venue. The goods included kitchenware and fine drinkware.
Phase two is themed "quality home" and features building materials, furniture, household goods, gifts and decorations. Its import zone will show distinctive overseas consumer goods, with more than 300 exhibits from several countries.
Wu Baohua, deputy director of the port supervision division at Guangzhou Customs, said that under the traditional model, imported exhibits selected for inspection had to be opened and checked at a port supervision site, repacked, and then moved to the venue. Exhibitors and logistics providers said repeated unpacking and moving lengthened transit time and could cause damage, especially for time-sensitive goods or goods with special storage needs.
Under the new model, exhibitors can have imported exhibits sent directly from the port to the venue, and customs officers inspect them at the booth while the exhibitor sets up. A customs manager at Hichain Logistics (海程邦达), which handled the Turkish shipment, said the model avoids repeated unpacking, lowers breakage, saves logistics cost and gives exhibitors more time to finish setup.
As of 21 October, Guangzhou Customs had supported 28 batches of imported exhibits totaling more than 25 tonnes for 85 exhibitors and provided policy consultation to more than 600 exhibitors and buyers.
