China News: Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Port launch a green shipping corridor, building on their existing direct container line

Five parties, including Hainan Maritime Safety Administration, AD Ports Group, COSCO Shipping Lines, Hainan Port and Shipping Holding and COSCO Shipping Ports, signed a cooperation initiative on 20 October 2026 to build a Yangpu Port to Abu Dhabi Port green shipping corridor, China News reported. The two ports already have a direct container service between them.

China News reported from Haikou on 20 October 2026 that Hainan Maritime Safety Administration, AD Ports Group (Abu Dhabi Ports), COSCO Shipping Lines, Hainan Port and Shipping Holding and COSCO Shipping Ports signed a cooperation initiative at the 2026 North Bund International Shipping Forum to build a Yangpu Port to Abu Dhabi Port green shipping corridor. The signing marks the full launch of the corridor's construction.

The report notes that green shipping corridors are a practical tool for meeting the International Maritime Organization's 2023 greenhouse gas strategy for ships, and that since 2025 China's Ministry of Transport has issued an International Green Shipping Corridor Cooperation Initiative and set up an international alliance for such corridors.

Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Port are important hubs for China and the Middle East respectively, and the two ports already operate a direct container route, which gives the corridor a solid starting base, according to the report.

The five parties will build a cooperation platform covering clean marine fuel supply and bunkering, green ship operations, green port construction and technology and equipment innovation, aiming to create a China and UAE port and shipping low-carbon cooperation demonstration corridor.
