The Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Bureau reported on 27 October 2026 that Shenzhen Port's container throughput this year reached 30 million TEU about three weeks earlier than in 2025, with laden-box share rising for a fourth straight year and cargo mix continuing to improve.
Through 17 October the port had handled 30.10 million TEU, up 7.7% year on year, with laden boxes up 8.0%. It has opened more than 270 international container liner services and keeps more than 30 point-to-point cross-border e-commerce sea express lines in regular operation. In 2026 it added sister-port ties with Piraeus (Greece) and Yeosu Gwangyang (Korea), taking the sister-port total to 31. Freight with APEC economies accounts for more than half of Shenzhen's foreign trade. January to September sea-borne finished vehicles and auto KD parts exceeded 290,000 units, up 40.7%, including more than 160,000 finished vehicles, up 53.2%.
Waterborne hinterland share rose from 27.7% when combination-port trials began in 2019 to 33.4% by September 2026. The port now runs 50 combination-port services covering 11 Guangdong cities, 33 inland ports and 45 sea-rail routes, moving 209,000 TEU via inland-port mode this year, up 49%. Yantian's eastern area has automated twin-trolley quay cranes rated for ships about 33% larger than today's biggest boxships (around 32,000 TEU class). Shore-power coverage is 95% across 124 berths.
