China News reported from Fangchenggang on 28 October 2026 that smart telecom quarantine at the port's anchorage has moved from pilot to routine operation after about a year of practice. On 27 October a foreign-trade freighter laden with imported iron ore arrived at Fangchenggang No. 5 anchorage and completed remote body-temperature checks, medical patrol and sanitary inspection while still at anchor.
From a shore office tens of kilometres away, Fangcheng Customs officers issued remote quarantine instructions through the smart telecom system. Crew members passed infrared temperature devices in sequence while officers read live data; ship staff then used handheld smart collection gear to video-inspect the galley, food stores and other key areas under officer guidance. The full inbound health quarantine took about 20 minutes, after which the ship was ready for follow-on operations.
In more than a year online, Fangcheng Customs has completed 118 smart telecom quarantines, including 11 at anchorage, cutting average per-ship handling time by 10 hours and vessel time in port by 13%, and saving enterprises more than RMB 5 million. The customs office also uses a Smart Bay system for real-time cargo logistics scheduling, applies two-step declaration, ship-side direct pickup, arrival direct loading and sea-rail multimodal reforms, and runs online radioactivity checks and impurity recognition gear that clear more than 45,000 tonnes of cargo a day on average.
