Xinjiang Daily reported on 4 November 2026 that as of that date Khorgos railway port had cleared more than 8,000 China-Europe and China-Central Asia trains in 2026, moving more than 13.80 million tonnes of cargo.
Khorgos sits on the China-Europe west corridor opposite Kazakhstan's Altynkol, 13.2 km away, where gauge change requires reloading. China Railway Urumqi Group staff said average daily throughput is about 27 trains, with 91 routes reaching 46 cities and regions in 18 countries and more than 200 commodity types.
With pre-arrival electronic data, agents can complete release before trains arrive so compliant wagons can depart in as little as 30 minutes. Import dwell at the port has fallen from two to three days to under 16 hours; local export handling has fallen from about 6 hours to 1 hour.
Officials said inbound loads are often wheat flour, barley flour and ores, while westbound trains carry NEVs, auto parts, machinery and electronics. FTZ Khorgos measures such as small-block point-to-point rail departure and domestic insurance for outbound trucks are framed as further cost and time supports for exporters.
