Gemini expands Suez return on more Asia-Europe loops from 19 Sep

Green Worldwide’s Week 38 update (16 Sep 2026) reports that Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will move four additional Gemini services from Cape of Good Hope routing back to the Suez Canal and Red Sea corridor: AE5, AE11, AE12 and ME2, covering Asia-Northern Europe, Asia-Mediterranean and India-Europe trades. Green Worldwide (16 Sep 2026) reports that Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announced four additional Gemini services will transition from Cape of Good Hope routing to the Suez Canal and Red Sea corridor: AE5, AE11, AE12 and ME2. The loops cover Asia-Northern Europe, Asia-Mediterranean and India-Europe trades, and join AE15 and AE19, which were already operating via Suez.

Initial westbound transitions begin on 19 Sep, with further changes scheduled through September and October. The update notes that the first AE12 sailing under the new plan had not yet been announced at publication time.

Routing via Suez offers shorter transit than the Cape, but both carriers continue to state that future service changes remain dependent on regional security conditions. Shippers should review individual service routings rather than assume a network-wide return to Suez.

National Business Daily (14 Oct 2026), citing General Administration of Customs (GACC) data, reports that in US-dollar terms China's September 2026 exports were USD 447.18 billion, up 36.3% year on year, and imports were USD 313.65 billion, up 31%. China News Service (14 Oct 2026, Ningbo), citing Zhejiang Seaport Group, reports that Ningbo-Zhoushan Port handled more than 1.6 million TEU of rail-sea intermodal cargo in the first three quarters of 2026, up 8.5% year on year. September alone exceeded 200,000 TEU, a monthly record. New products include a Middle East rail-sea train from Yiwu, domestic water-rail 'one-document' links, a Yiwu-Qinzhou domestic train, and an Aksu export train with Xinjiang 'one box to the end' export mode.

People's Daily Shanghai (13 Oct 2026), citing Jiefang Daily, reports Shanghai Port handled 5.135 million TEU in September 2026, up 6.2% year on year and a new monthly record.
