Green Worldwide (16 Sep 2026) reports that Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announced four additional Gemini services will transition from Cape of Good Hope routing to the Suez Canal and Red Sea corridor: AE5, AE11, AE12 and ME2. The loops cover Asia-Northern Europe, Asia-Mediterranean and India-Europe trades, and join AE15 and AE19, which were already operating via Suez.
Initial westbound transitions begin on 19 Sep, with further changes scheduled through September and October. The update notes that the first AE12 sailing under the new plan had not yet been announced at publication time.
Routing via Suez offers shorter transit than the Cape, but both carriers continue to state that future service changes remain dependent on regional security conditions. Shippers should review individual service routings rather than assume a network-wide return to Suez.
