On 9 October 2026, China News Service reported from Guangzhou that a barge loaded with Jiangmen-made smart home appliances left Gaosha Port for Shenzhen’s Yantian Port after Jiangmen Customs’ Gaosha office completed multimodal customs supervision. At Yantian the boxes are meant to connect directly to ocean vessels for overseas markets.
The model is designed so cargo does not need repeated declarations or the traditional transit “detour”: exporters finish declaration, inspection and release at the inland river port, then load at the coastal hub. A Jiangmen shipping-agency manager told China News that versus earlier water–water transit, paperwork is simpler, turns are faster and costs are more controllable, with applications filed through the International Trade Single Window.
Gaosha sits on a key West River inland-shipping node for home appliances and motorcycles on the west bank of the Pearl River. Building on classic transit and “combined port” schemes, Gaosha Customs has opened multimodal barge links to Shekou, Nansha and Yantian. Since the multimodal service launched in May this year, Gaosha Customs has supervised 43 export shipments totaling 85 TEU and 715 tonnes.
Jiangmen Customs says it is tightening data links with Shenzhen and Guangzhou hub customs and stacking an LCL “inspect then load” practice so consolidated cargo can be inspected and loaded on arrival, aiming for zero delay when multimodal containers enter and leave the port. Cumulatively, Jiangmen Customs’ multimodal mode has cleared 124 export shipments, 323 TEU and 2,133 tonnes—practical volume for West Pearl River factories that want hub-port sailing density without duplicating inland clearance.
