China News reported on 26 October 2026, citing CCTV, that China's goods trade imports and exports totaled 39.94 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, up 18.8% year on year. Exports of electric vehicles, lithium batteries, and wind turbines and parts rose 72.3%, 36.4% and 22.4% respectively.
China has 313 national ports of entry, including 125 water ports, 86 air ports and 102 land ports. Water ports handle more than 90% of national port freight volume.
Xiamen Port in Fujian is one of China's main lithium battery export ports and has recorded more than 100 billion yuan in lithium battery exports for three consecutive years. A joint service center now coordinates roughly 10 maritime, port, terminal and pilotage units so vessels no longer need to contact each agency separately. Port authorities have also issued marine safety transport guidance for containerized lithium battery energy storage systems, opened special channels for new energy cargo with faster review, and mutually recognize inspection results with Wuhan, Ningbo and other places to cut repeated declarations and checks.
Many of the batteries leaving Xiamen come from inland Yibin in Sichuan. Lithium ore arrives via Shanghai and moves about 2,800 km up the Yangtze to Yibin, where it is processed into lithium salts, electrode materials, cells and packs, then shipped out through Shenzhen, Xiamen, Shanghai and other coastal ports.
